2nd Annual Archaeology Week - June 25 to July 1, 2012

 

Tuesday, June 26 - 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Fieldtrip Beyond the Bodo Site - Bodo Archaeological Centre
A guided field trip to the Treaty 6 signing location and the historic North West Mounted Police Post at Sounding Lake.  Explore the First Nations and European history of east-central Alberta in the Bodo tour van.  Meet at Bodo Archaeological Centre at 6:15pm.  Information package provided

 

Wednesday, June 27 - 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Guest Lecture by archaeologist Don Hanna of Lifeway of Canada Limited - Provost and District Museum
Don will present on the prehistoric pebble chert quarrying in the Misty Hills, located south and west of Bodo.  These newly discovered pebble chert quarries may have been utilized by the former inhabitants of the Bodo site to get raw material to make stone tools and arrow heads.  Coffee and snacks provided.

 

Thursday, June 28 - 6:30pm to 9:30pm
Kids Night - Bodo Archaeological Centre and Site
Entertaining and educational archaeological related activites for kids.  This night will include activities such as excavation dig tours, face painting, traditional crafts, mock excavation opportunities, atlatl throwing lessons, and artifact identification stations.  The evening will be topped off with the showing of a kids archaeology movie in the tipi.  Prizes and popcorn provided.

 

Sunday, July 1 - 10:00am - 4:00pm
11th Annual Open House - Bodo Archaeological Centre and Site
Guided tours of the excavation site and the interpretive centre and a variety of other activities including local artifact displays, on site demonstrations, stone tool manufacturing demonstrations and kids activites.  Nominal fee charged for the site tour.  Lunch and dinner available.
